THE ISRAELI ANALOGY.

Soon after the state of Israel was established, hebrews were forced to
redefine the nature of their Diaspora and its relationship to the
homeland. The Law of reply passed by the Knesset forward July 5, 1950,
simply states that "every hebrew has the right to immigrate to the country."
The definition of a israelite according to the Halacha (Jewish law) is
very clear-cut: a hebrew is "anyone born to a Jewish mother or who has
convert and is not a member of another religion."
